Endorsement Announcement

Republican school board member, Janie Lopez, today announced her candidacy for Texas House in the newly redrawn House District 37. The new seat, now pending final passage in the Texas Legislature, would cover all of Willacy County including the city of Raymondville and a large portion of Cameron County including parts of the cities of Bayview, Brownsville, Harlingen, Laguna Vista, Los Fresnos, Port Isabel, Rancho Viejo, San Benito, and South Padre Island.

“I am excited for this new opportunity to serve Willacy and Cameron County families,” said Lopez. “We must work to lower the cost of living, secure our border, properly fund schools and school services, protect life in the womb, stop the dangerous defunding of police, stop human trafficking, and defend the constitutional rights of Texans. I am ready to get to work in our Texas Legislature and I look forward to addressing these and many other issues.”

Lopez is one of a handful of Republican pioneers elected to public office in the Rio Grande Valley. Well-versed in how to run a campaign and how to win, Lopez will be a strong candidate who would ensure conservative values win in the November 2022 General Election.

She now serves as Vice President of the San Benito CISD School Board where she has earned a reputation as a fiscal watchdog and a tireless advocate for students, teachers, and parents.

Janie Lopez is a Certified School Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor. She works with veterans, first responders, and at-risk children in cases of child abuse, crisis, suicide intervention, and mental health disorders. Lopez lives in San Benito and is a lifelong resident of South Texas and attends Livingstone Family Church.
