Marc LaHood was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Texas Military Institute, Trinity University, and Saint Mary’s University Law School in 2007. He primarily practices state and federal criminal defense and has represented clients in over 50 counties throughout Texas. Marc has tried felony jury trials in both state and federal courts. He consistently earns accolades for criminal defense, including Best of San Antonio from the San Antonio Current.
On August 15, 1996, carjackers followed his eldest brother, Mike Jr., and his girlfriend to their home. As the robber came up the driveway, Mike stayed to confront him as she ran into the back. He was killed instantly when the robber shot him in the face. Everyone heard the gunshot and the tires squealing as the carjackers sped away. Marc’s best friend’s father, Eddie Garcia, was murdered outside his office a year later. Marc’s mother, Norma, was born in Laredo, Texas, and her family moved to the South Side of San Antonio after her father was discharged after serving in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. Both her brothers served in the US Navy during Vietnam. Eddie began self-medicating and eventually became addicted to heroin. He was in and out of prison and ultimately died in prison from his drug addiction. Louis committed suicide in 1979.
In 2015, Marc met his wife, Erica, and eldest daughter Emily. They helped to heal his heart and soul and brought him back to the Church, and they were married in 2017. He adopted his eldest child, Emily, that same year. They now have four children together, three of whom are under four. Ultimately, his children motivated him to get off the sidelines and run for District Attorney.
He believes the problems in our District Attorney’s office now create dangers for our families and are laying the foundation for more significant risks if not addressed. Marc LaHood’s extensive experience dealing with every level of the justice system, from state and federal law enforcement agencies to state and federal prosecutors to state and federal judges, puts him in the unique position best to address our current problems. Our justice system deals not with widgets but with human relationships and real lives. Victims deserve swift and effective justice. We cannot fix the dangers of mental health and drug addiction by ignoring them. He is the only candidate with the unique experience to rebuild our relationship with law enforcement, enforce the law without an agenda, and ensure criminals are prosecuted under the law.
That is why your District Attorney needs to be willing to lead, serve as the Chief Prosecutor for our community, advocate for mental health assistance and awareness and still be willing to have the listening ear and outstretched hand for the victims and those who have lost loved ones.
